BC NDP MLA Grace Lore, who has also been appointed as Minister of Children and Family Development, took a step back from her ministerial duties in December 2024 after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer.
Since that time, she says she has been working hard towards recovery so she can get back into her Minister role and participate more in the BC legislature.
On Wednesday, July 9th, Lore provided an update via social media on how her treatment has been progressing and what is next in her recovery journey.
“I’ve been a bit quiet over here because we hit a few bumps – after three months of chemo I developed acute toxicity – turns out my chemo was as hard on all my organs as it was on my cancer,” said Lore.
“We waited for me to recover enough to restart chemo but it was a long haul and we ended up needing to switch to plan b!”
The plan B she refers to will be a surgical intervention for her cancer, but she says she is feeling well, strong and ready for this next step.
“Thank you again for all your thoughts and love – and thank you to so many of you carrying on the good work and the care and love of our community and province,” Lore wrote.
“I can’t wait to get back to it with you all.”
Lore noted that her office and her team remain available to support anyone in the community who needs to reach out with questions or concerns.
In this latest update about her health, Lore also implored people to pay attention to their bodies, as colorectal cancer is on the rise in young people in recent years.
Her diagnosis came shortly after her election win in the Victoria-Beacon Hill electoral district.
Lore was first elected in 2020 and won again in 2024.
