It’s becoming a bit of a tradition on the West Shore, and no, we’re not talking about rush hour.
On Tuesday, drivers near the Admirals Road exit in View Royal were treated to a feathered traffic jam when a gaggle of geese (about a dozen, to be precise) decided to cross the Trans-Canada Highway like it was their personal pond path.
Dashcam footage captured the waddling crew making their way across the northbound lanes, heading straight for the centre barrier.
That’s when a West Shore RCMP officer jumped into action, pulling over, hopping out of his cruiser, and gently guiding the flock to safety.
According to West Shore RCMP, traffic came to a complete stop while the officer — with the help of two drivers — ensured the entire bird brigade made it over the median unharmed.
It was a wild duck chase yesterday for one of our West Shore RCMP officers as they assisted this family of ducks across the highway near Admirals Road in View Royal 🐥

They called it a “wild duck chase” on social media, and thanked everyone for their patience during the short but adorable delay.
This isn’t the first time RCMP have played crossing guard for geese. Just a few weeks ago, officers, alongside CRD Animal Control, helped escort another goose family along the very same highway, joking that it was a “Canadian (goose) police escort.”
One thing’s for sure — when it comes to protecting and serving, West Shore RCMP has both people and poultry covered.
