Beginning this week, Colwood residents will have access to an e-bike and e-scooter sharing program.
As of April 28th, BCAA’s Evolve E-Bike and E-Scooter Share is disbursing 60 new e-bikes and e-scooters across 15 parking stations throughout the municipality.
These e-bikes and e-scooters will be distributed among parking stations at locations such as Lagoon Beach, the Colwood Transit Exchange, Colwood Corners, Royal Bay Commons and at several sites along the Galloping Goose Trail.
According to BCAA, there will also be three additional stations at Royal Roads University for students to access.
This initiative is being launched to provide residents and visitors with a flexible and active way to navigate and experience all corners of Colwood.
“Growing communities like Colwood must take a multi-faceted approach to reducing transportation challenges,” said Colwood Mayor Doug Kobayashi.
“Giving residents the option to jump on an Evolve E-Bike or E-Scooter for some trips will help meet our community’s goals of easing traffic congestion, improving health and well-being, attracting visitors to nearby businesses, and reducing our climate impact.”
With this latest Evolve expansion, users will be able to start or end their trips in Colwood, Langford and Saanich, who also have Evolve e-bikes and e-scooters, as well as parking stations throughout the communities.
Since implementing the same e-bike and e-scooter share program in Langford, Evolve plans on establishing several new parking zones planned across the city this spring and summer.
Evolve will also be adding 75 new e‑scooters to their Langford fleet, bringing the total number to 250 devices, up from 175.
Furthermore, Saanich will see expansion this year too after launching an electric kick scooter pilot program, where currently, only e-bikes are available.
Following these expansions and the Colwood launch, there will be around 400 Evolve e-bikes and e-scooters available across the region this year.
The e-bikes and e-scooters are accessible via the Evo app, which is available on both iOS or Android devices.
Riders need only open their app, unlock the e-bike or e-scooter, grab an included helmet and go where they wish.
Those who ride can choose between pricing options that include pay-per-minute and monthly plans.
