Next month, Vancouver Island University (VIU) students will be making an attempt to bring home the record for the world’s largest Nanaimo Bar.
The culinary arts, professional baking and pastry arts programs are joining forces for this lofty attempt on May 17th.
Currently, the record belongs to a local chocolatier based out of the small community of Levack, Ontario, around 50 kilometres northwest of Sudbury.
The current record is a 530-pound Nanaimo Bar.
However, VIU students hope to blow this record out of the water by making a 1,100-pound Nanaimo Bar that will be about 70 feet long by three feet wide.
VIU will be hosting a viewing and tasting of this potential world record-setter on May 17th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
At this family-friendly event, people will get to see and eat parts of the Nanaimo Bar, there will be food trucks, games and official Nanaimo Bar merchandise available for purchase.
All proceeds of this event will also be going towards VIU’s culinary programs too.
“The goal of this event, beyond setting a new world record, is to raise money to buy new ovens for VIU’s Culinary Arts and Professional Baking and Pastry Arts programs,” said VIU in the event description.
“The current ovens, which are decades old, are nearing the end of their lifespan and need to be replaced.”
Mark your calendars and prepare your sweet tooth for this monumental occasion!
