The Victoria Royals are back after the holiday break and ready to hit the ice with back-to-back games at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre this weekend.
The Royals will face off against the Prince George Cougars on Friday, December 27th, with puck drop at 7:05 p.m. The action continues on Saturday, December 28th, with a slightly earlier start at 6:05 p.m.
This weekend’s games mark the third meeting of the season between the Royals and the Cougars. The teams previously met in October, splitting the series. The Royals bounced back from a 6-3 loss in the opener to secure a thrilling 5-4 shootout victory in the second game, with standout performances from Justin Kipkie, who tallied four points over the two games.
The Royals head into this series with strong momentum after sweeping the Vancouver Giants in their final two games before the break. In the first matchup, played in Victoria, Jayden Kraus recorded his first career shutout in a dominant 4-0 win.
The following night, the Royals spoiled the Giants’ Teddy Bear Toss in Langley, overturning a 2-0 deficit to claim a 6-3 victory.
This weekend’s games hold major implications for the BC Division standings. The Royals currently sit second, just behind the Cougars, with an opportunity to tie—and potentially overtake—the division leaders.
Victoria Royals forward Teydon Trembecky, a 19-year-old from Sherwood Park, Alta., has been a cornerstone of the team’s offence this season. Leading the Royals with 14 goals and 20 assists across 32 games, Trembecky has also proven to be a powerplay threat, netting five goals with the man advantage. He shone in the last series against the Cougars, contributing three points (1G, 2A).
Prince George Cougars forward Terik Parascak, an 18-year-old from Lethbridge, Alta., has emerged as one of the WHL’s top players this season. With 44 points (16G, 28A) in just 28 games, he leads the Cougars in scoring.
Parascak was pivotal in the previous matchups against the Royals, tallying four points (1G, 3A). The Washington Capitals recently selected him 17th overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
