Put an end to the wondering Vancouver Island, the winner of the massive lotto prize has been revealed.
Ucluelet resident, Sharon Fraser, was eating breakfast when she remembered to check her PlayNow.com account for the Lotto Max draw results, as she has a subscription.
Even though she was still waking up, Fraser definitely felt more alert after learning she had won the $18 million jackpot from the February 23rd Lotto Max draw.
“I was at my breakfast table with my husband and son,” recalled Fraser.
“Every Saturday morning, I check the [Lotto Max] results. I thought it was a free play and said, ‘they’ve made a mistake.’ I called customer support and they verified everything!”
Fraser first shared the news of her win with her husband and children.
“The kids were in disbelief at first,” exclaimed Fraser.
While Fraser said she is in no rush to make plans, she wants to buy property and a new car.
And as an avid sailor, she also hopes to take some trips on her sailboat, with destinations in the south being her top picks.
On how it feels to win?
“Exciting! We don’t have to worry – we’re retirees. It’s also going to provide security for my children.”
Last year, a financial advisor living in Sidney won $55-million playing Lotto Max, the biggest jackpot winner in Vancouver Island’s history.
So far in 2024, BC lottery players have redeemed more than $34 million from Lotto Max.
BCLC awarded the $18-million prize today, during a celebration in its Vancouver office.
