Victoria JazzFest surpasses $250K fundraising goal with one day to spare

Victoria JazzFest will continue to bring world-class talent to the capital region after going above and beyond a fundraising goal of $250,000.

The Victoria Jazz Society (VJS), which organizes the annual JazzFest, launched the fundraiser at the beginning of October after losing TD Bank as the festival’s primary sponsor.

On Thursday, October 29th, the society reached its fundraising goal with one day left in the fundraising campaign.

The VJS has been bringing jazz and world music to Victoria for over four decades.

They have been responsible for hundreds of world famous artists playing the Royal Theatre and  presenting thousands of international artists, Canadian artists and local musicians through JazzFest.

The society asked the community to help them continue to do this work, and the community responded in kind.

Though the goal has now been reached, the VJS is encouraging additional donations for those who are able to afford it.

“$250,000 is not a ceiling, but the minimum needed for this campaign to be a success; if you would still like to make a pledge, please do so,” said the VJS.

As of this publication, the society has raised $267,033 to put towards this year’s Victoria JazzFest.

Friday, October 30th is the last day to make a pledge.

“Every bit helps to let the Victoria Jazz Society present more live music, more free performances, and more outreach initiatives,” said the society.

“After tomorrow’s deadline, the Victoria Jazz Society will start to verify and collect pledges. Received donations of $10+ are eligible for tax receipts.”

More information on how to pledge a donation can be found online here.
