Langford’s Pacific FC snaps 385-day losing streak with win on home field  

In some long-awaited good news for Pacific FC fans, the club has finally won a game on home soil!

The win, which came against the Halifax Wanderers on Sunday, August 30th is the team’s first win in 385 days.

The game ended with a final score of 4-3, with Dutch footballer Diego Konincks scoring the team’s winning goal in second-half stoppage time.

Pacific FC, known colloquially as the Tridents, have seemingly tried every strategy available to them to break their more than one-year-long losing streak.

The team changed coaching staff earlier this season on July 5th, when they hired Terry Dunfield to take the place of former head coach James Merriman.

Merriman saw success with the team initially, with the Tridents winning the Canadian Premier League final in 2021 and going on an impressive run in the Canadian Championship, but had struggled to help the team find its footing in recent years.

Dunfield was a former player himself, and a pundit for the TSN FIFA World Cup broadcast in July of this year.

With Dunfield taking the reins, a new hope was instilled into the team, but after losses to Hamilton’s Forge FC and FC Supra du Québec and draws to Vancouver FC and Inter Toronto, the elusive mark in the win column had yet to come.

Finally, this weekend’s game saw the number in that win column change.

With the team sitting at one win, five draws and 12 losses, the Tridents have 10 games left to play this season.

It may be difficult to fully salvage the season at this point, but there’s no doubt the victory will leave a good taste for fans and players alike.

The Tridents’ next game is on Saturday, September 5th against Atlético Ottawa in the nation’s capital, where they will hope to string two wins together.

Ottawa is a strong team this year, with 12 wins, three draws and seven losses on the season, making the Tridents’ task that much harder.

Regardless of all the other noise, this weekend’s win is a reason to celebrate, and Pacific FC players and fans will hope to keep some momentum heading into the rest of the season.
