Police are investigating after two pickup trucks were damaged by suspicious fires in Lake Cowichan early Halloween morning.

According to Lake Cowichan RCMP, officers were called to assist firefighters with a vehicle fire along Johnson Place just before 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 31st.

When officers arrived, they discovered a Ford F-350 that had been damaged by the flames.

While investigating the first incident, police received another report of a vehicle on fire in the 140-block of Berar Road.

Officers attended the second location and discovered a Toyota Tacoma that had also been burned. The two vehicles were located approximately 2.5 kilometres apart.

RCMP say the circumstances surrounding the fires have raised concerns.

“Due to the proximity and the time of the fires, these two incidents are considered suspicious and are currently being investigated,” police said in a media release issued Tuesday, November 3rd.

According to community members, there were also two additional fires in the area around the same time.

Police have not confirmed whether the two vehicle fires are connected or whether either was deliberately set.

Anyone with information about the incidents, including surveillance or dashcam footage, is asked to contact Lake Cowichan RCMP at (250) 749-6668.
