Road closure in effect after power lines downed due to single vehicle crash in Saanich

Share

Saanich Police have issued a traffic advisory following a single vehicle crash bringing down BC Hydro power lines at the intersection of Elk Lake and Royal Oak Drives.

The incident occurred at around 8:54 a.m. on July 17th when a driver struck several street signs and a BC Hydro pole in the blocks north of the intersection.

The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and the collision is believed to have been caused by a medical incident.

Police have since temporarily closed the road as BC Hydro and Saanich Fire Department crews attend the scene for the repairs.

According to Saanich Police, the repairs are estimated to take between six and eight hours. BC Transit has been notified and some routes may be detoured while the power lines are repaired.

The power lines coming down have caused a small outage in the area, with 157 BC Hydro customers currently without power.

BC Hydro’s outage map indicates that the impacted area affects mostly residential units located on and around Normandy Drive.
