A Victoria resident is celebrating a life-changing lottery win after purchasing a scratch-and-win ticket on a whim.
According to BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC), David S. recently spotted a “$20 Diamond” scratch-and-win ticket featuring a diamond symbol and decided to give it a shot.
That spontaneous decision paid off in a big way, as the ticket turned out to be worth the game’s top prize of $2 million.
The Victoria man said he discovered his win after scanning the ticket at a self-checker.
“I took the ticket to the till and did a little dance,” David recalled. “I called my mom immediately!”
Despite the massive windfall, David says he hasn’t made any major plans for the money just yet.
For now, one thing is certain: he’ll be treating his mom to a nice dinner to celebrate.
On what it’s like becoming an instant millionaire?
“It’s really surreal,” he said.
According to the BCLC, David purchased and validated the winning ticket at Devonshire Vape and Cigars on Esquimalt Road in Victoria.
The win comes during a big year for scratch-and-win ticket players across the province. BCLC says players have redeemed more than $47 million in scratch-and-win prizes so far in 2026.
For David, a simple $20 purchase and a lucky diamond symbol turned into a $2 million payday.
