This June, the fifth annual Trades de France race will be taking place on Vancouver Island to raise money for local charities.
The Tour de France-inspired race was started to bring Vancouver Island’s business, construction and design communities together in a month-long walk, run, cycle and swim.
Trades de France was launched by local Victoria business Heritage Masonry & Conservation in 2022 to encourage physical wellness, stronger workplace culture and greater community connection among these professions.
Those participating have to walk, run, bike or swim 3,320 kilometres throughout the month of June—the same distance as the Tour de France.
Teams donate a minimum of $695 to participate, with many going above and beyond.
Over the past five years, the event has helped raise over $30,000 for local, Vancouver Island charities.
“The trades can be tough on both the body and mind, and we wanted to create something that encouraged healthier habits while bringing people together,” said Liam Hall, co-founder of Trades de France and Heritage Masonry & Conservation.
“What started as a simple idea has grown into a community event that supports local charities while promoting movement, teamwork, and connection.”
Trades de France began on June 1st, and will have competitors taking part in the challenge until June 30th.
Organizers say they hope the event inspires healthier habits, stronger team culture and meaningful community impact.
