Victorians can experience Italian culture right here at home this weekend!
On Sunday, June 28th from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., the Da Vinci Centre will be hosting the third annual Victoria Italian Day to celebrate Italian heritage and culture here in Victoria.
This free event will feature live Italian music and entertainment, showcasing talented performers from Italy as well as artists inspired by the country’s musical roots.
The centre has an outdoor stage, which will host Angela Burgaretta and her band the Jagged Roots, Michael Mazza and the Mozzarellas, the Pacific Opera Victoria, Michelle Panayi on piano and local violin virtuoso Julien Vitek.
On the indoor stage, the centre will be playing the Canada versus South Africa World Cup match, as well as a pasta making demonstration from Flavia Costi.
One of the things that keeps attendees coming back to this event every year is the large display of Italian cars and motorcycles, with photo opportunities available.
It will also feature food from some of Victoria’s best Italian restaurants, including Triestina and Ottavio, as well as pizza from Vagabond Pies and a beer and wine garden. Expect focaccia, pasta, gelato, tiramisu and cannolis aplenty!
The event is family-friendly, with games and activities outside for everyone, including bocce, foosball, a soccer challenge and palo cuccaga, or greasy pole, a traditional Italian sport where challengers must climb a tall greased wooden pole and grab a prize or a flag from the top.
While kids can enjoy all of these activities, there will also be a kids tent with activities especially for them.
For more information on the event, be sure to visit the Da Vinci Centre’s website here.
