What a difference two years can make!
After an extensive transformation of the former Fairway Market space at the Westshore Town Centre, FreshCo officially opened the doors to its first Vancouver Island location this morning in Langford, welcoming shoppers eager to get a first look inside the newly renovated grocery store.
By the time the doors opened at 8 a.m., a crowd had already gathered outside following a brief opening ceremony that included remarks from Langford Mayor Scott Goodmanson, FreshCo leadership and local community representatives.
Stepping inside, it’s hard to imagine the building was once home to Fairway Market. The space has been completely reimagined with bright colours, wide aisles, modern fixtures and neatly organized shelves stocked and ready for the first customers.
As FreshCo’s first store in Victoria and the first location on Vancouver Island, the new grocery store features a unique design intended to create a more convenient and dynamic shopping experience for customers.
The grand opening also included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a $2,500 donation to the Goldstream Food Bank, highlighting the company’s commitment to supporting the local community.
Among those in attendance were FreshCo franchisee Eli Chapple, members of FreshCo’s leadership team, local councillors and specially invited community guests.

The new store employs approximately 80 people and marks another milestone in FreshCo’s continued expansion across Western Canada.
FreshCo, owned by Sobeys, the same company behind Thrifty Foods, says the Langford location will offer residents a new grocery destination focused on value, quality and a broad selection of popular brands.
Known for its discount-focused approach, FreshCo says it aims to provide shoppers with competitive pricing while still offering a full grocery experience.
The chain strikes a balance between traditional discount grocers and larger full-service supermarkets, combining affordability with a wide range of fresh produce, meat, bakery items and everyday household essentials.
The company says its mission is centered around helping make every dollar count through competitive pricing, weekly deals, Scene+ promotions and a strong focus on freshness.
The Langford store becomes FreshCo’s 162nd location across Canada and its 54th store in Western Canada.
For local shoppers, today’s opening brings a new grocery option to one of the region’s fastest-growing communities, and judging by the crowds waiting outside this morning, there was plenty of excitement to finally see what has replaced the former Fairway Market.
And if you’re heading to the Sweet Street event at Westshore Town Centre this Saturday, be sure to stop by and check out Langford’s newest grocery store.
Until then, here’s a look inside Vancouver Island’s first FreshCo:
