The City of Victoria is warning motorists of more significant traffic impacts along Blanshard Street.

Crews are currently working on the section of Blanshard that stretches from Caledonia to Hillside Avenues.

The largest impact to traffic will occur on Sunday, May 10th, when crews will fully close to traffic in both directions from Caledonia to Hillside, and on Bay Street from Douglas to Quadra Streets.

This closure will allow crews to work on the busy intersection of Bay and Quadra without oncoming traffic and diversions.

Following Sunday, from Monday, May 11th to Friday, May 15th, crews will open Blanshard and Bay once again, however lanes will be reduced.

According to the City, northbound Blanshard will be reduced to one lane from Bay to Hillside.

In addition to the full closure on Sunday, the City warns motorists, cyclists and pedestrians that there may be additional lane closures, major traffic delays and intermittent pedestrian detours at Kings Road and Bay.

The City also says that cyclists must dismount and walk when crossing Blanshard and that there will be construction-related noise, dust and odours.

Those who use transit along the impacted corridors can find updates to their routes via BC Transit’s alerts webpage.

Construction along Blanshard includes road paving, maintenance, installing protected bike lanes, accessibility improvements and a new traffic signal at Blanshard and Pembroke Street.

Work is scheduled to be completed this summer.
