A man was taken to hospital after being assaulted in Nanaimo earlier this week and RCMP are now asking witnesses to come forward.
According to the Nanaimo RCMP, the incident happened at around 3 p.m. on Monday, May 11th near the intersection of Seventh Street and Douglas Avenue.
Police say the victim, an adult man, was walking alone when he was allegedly struck from behind with an unknown blunt object for reasons that remain unclear.
The impact reportedly caused the man to fall to the ground.
Investigators say the suspect, who was not known to the victim, then allegedly produced a knife before fleeing the area on foot. The victim received medical treatment for his injuries.
RCMP noted the assault impacted the victim’s memory, making it difficult for him to provide investigators with a detailed description of the suspect.
Police canvassed nearby homes and businesses for CCTV and doorbell camera footage but say no relevant video evidence has been located so far.
Police are asking anyone who was in the area of Seventh Street and Douglas Avenue between 2:45 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. on May 11th and may have witnessed the incident or noticed suspicious activity to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at (250) 754-2345.
