A suspected impaired driver is under investigation following a serious overnight crash on the Malahat that left one person with life-threatening injuries.

According to West Shore RCMP, officers responded to the two-vehicle collision at approximately 12:26 a.m. on Friday, May 8th near Finlayson Arm Road.

Police say the crash involved a 2000 Subaru Outback and a 2012 Cadillac SRX.

Investigators say the driver of the Cadillac was displaying signs and symptoms of suspected impairment and an impaired driving investigation is now underway.

The driver of the Subaru suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services.

The driver of the Cadillac was also taken to hospital with injuries. RCMP Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service attended the scene as part of the investigation.

The northbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway between West Shore Parkway and Aspen Road were closed for much of the night beginning around 12:30 a.m. before reopening at approximately 7:10 a.m. this morning.

The overnight closure caused significant traffic disruptions for early morning commuters travelling between the West Shore and Duncan.
