Victoria hotel ranked among North America’s best new hotels in 2026

Travellers to Victoria have a new option for staying in style when they visit the city.

Luxury and lifestyle magazine Condé Nast Traveler has just released a list of the best new hotels opening in the US and Canada, and a Victoria spot made the cut!

Rosemead House, a new boutique hotel in Esquimalt, was the only spot in Canada to be named  on the list of 10.

The location of this establishment has a lot of history in the city. It originated in 1906 as a private home, turning over ownership several times and being an important landmark in the community for decades. During World War II, the manor even offered accommodation to servicemen stationed in the city.

Many Victorians may remember the building as the Old English Inn, which served the community for decades before it was purchased by owner-developer Lenny Moy’s Aragon Properties in 2015.

Now, the Rosemead House is open for visitors.

The hotel features luxury amenities like the Salt and Ivy Spa and Janevca Restaurant, a fine dining establishment that has been receiving mentions around the country.

The executive Chef of Janecva, Andrea Aldridge, appeared on Top Chef Canada, and earned her stripes cooking at some of Vancouver’s best Italian restaurants.

She brings that expertise in Italian cuisine into this new venture, while her Jamaican and Filipino roots also have influence on the menu.

Currently Janevca is closed indefinitely due to a kitchen fire. The restaurant says they plan to be open again soon, though no timeline has been announced.

The hotel has 28 rooms total, and is split into two manors.

The ultra-maximalist rooms in the Manor House are described by CN Traveler as having an “expansive Wes Anderson-meets-The Crown effect.”

The rooms in the Grove Collection, the other half of the establishment, are a bit more restrained in both price and design.

The magazine says the crown jewel of the establishment is the Dynasty Suite, where “vaulted ceilings with exposed beams soar above chinoiserie cabinets, green botanical wallpaper, an opulent carved fireplace and a freestanding clawfoot tub.”

The magazine goes on to say that the carefully-curated collection of antiques is what makes the establishment really stand out, with a careful mix of eccentricity and discipline.

Moy collected over 5,000 antiques from 200 auctions to craft an atmosphere that he felt was just right for the space.

CN Traveler also fawned over Esquimalt’s eclectic and quiet locale, mentioning the nearby Market Garden and its charming ambience and upscale goods.
