Saanich Police launch online reporting system for non-urgent calls

Share

The Saanich Police Department has launched an online reporting system, allowing residents a new way to report select non-emergency incidents.

This new system is meant to give the public an additional option for submitting reports for certain types of incidents when it is convenient for them.

According to Saanich Police, this initiative will support more timely reporting of incidents that may otherwise go unreported.

This will ultimately help improve the efficiency of police service delivery and help to reduce wait times for the public.

Residents can find the new reporting system via the Saanich Police Department website and follow instructions and examples to determine whether their incident is suitable for online reporting.

Some suitable online reporting examples include found property, fraud under $10,000, theft under $10,000 with no known suspect, hit-and-run, shoplifting, mischief or damage to property under $5,000, lost property under $10,000 or traffic incidents/driver complaints.

Online reporting is not meant to replace reporting by phone or in person, but rather provide an additional option.

Saanich Police urge residents not to try to use online reporting for emergencies, crimes in progress or incidents requiring immediate police attendance. In those situations, call 911 or the police non-emergency line.
