8 must-try happy hours to check out this spring in and around Victoria

Share

Well Victoria, it’s that time of year again.

The sun is out, the markets are starting up and the festivals are just around the corner.

You already know what that means. It’s time to hit happy hour!

With just a little bit of planning, you can save your friends and yourself some money during your spring and summer activities.

We’ve compiled a list of our favourite spots to grab some early afternoon or late-night cheap eats and drinks in the city.

Here are 8 of the best happy hours in and around Victoria:

Spinnaker’s Pub

Spinnaker’s is an absolute pillar in the community. Located out in Esquimalt, they have been serving up tasty bites and bevvies for years.

Back in 2016 when they experienced a fire that damaged a large part of the building, the community banded together to raise money for repairs.

Spinnaker’s is paying back the community for that favour with their incredible happy hour selections.

$6 Pints and $16 jugs of their house beer, $8 for their housemade spirit highballs and $6.50 for 50 ounces of their housemade wine, what’s not to love? Pair that with some $6 kennebec fries or $9 popcorn chicken and you are fueled up for an afternoon in the city!

  • Where: Spinnaker’s Pub, 308 Catherine Street
  • When:
    • Monday to Friday – 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
    • Sunday to Thursday – 9 p.m. to close

Part and Parcel

If you don’t already know, Part and Parcel has been dishing up some of the best sandwiches in town for years now.

The fried broccoli and katsu chicken sandwiches are to die for, and during happy hour you can grab them cheap!

The broccoli sandwich is $12 and the katsu chicken is $13. Pair those with a $5 dollar Hoyne Pilsner or Dark Matter beer and you can bet the rest of your day is going to be so much better.

  • Where: Part and Parcel, 2656 Quadra Street
  • When: Tuesday to Saturday – 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Earl’s Kitchen and Bar

Earl’s is a staple of Victoria pub culture.

The Rhino pints are famous in town for having the three best things you want most in a beer. Large, ice cold and cheap.

At happy hour, you can get Rhino drafts for $3 off, or grab a half price sangria, shaft, Aperol spritz or espresso martini.

With some deals on cheap eats coming in as low as $5, you’ll be hard-pressed to find better deals anywhere in the city.

There is nothing that says Victoria pub culture more than a shaft and some $5 fries at Earl’s before an afternoon concert.

  • Where: Earl’s Kitchen and Bar, 1199 Government Street
  • When:
    • Monday to Sunday – 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
    • Sunday to Thursday – 9 p.m. to close
    • Friday and Saturday – 10 p.m. to close

They’re still relatively new in the city, opening their doors back in 2023.

The restaurant is doing everything right to gain favour in the city, and their daily happy hour is no exception.

They’re offering up $4 sleeves of Phillips Tilt lager and $7 sleeves of other local draughts, along with tasty bites like Wagyu gyozas for $12 and Char Siu BBQ pork belly for $8.

Leopold’s Tavern

Leopold’s Tavern is on a mission across Western Canada to give us the cheap eats and drinks that we need.

This chain restaurant has locations across BC, Manitoba, Alberta and Saskatchewan, but you wouldn’t know it walking in.

The interior is an eclectic mix of local band, restaurant and business paraphernalia, and gives dive bar vibes through and through.

The food is tasty, offering anything from a $0.99 pickled egg to their $59 punchbowl poutine challenge.

Their happy hour features $6 Caesars, highballs, or try 20 ounce pints of their Leo’s Lager. They’ve also got food items on special, including their messy fries for $5 and pierogies for $6.
