A fire that destroyed a storage shed and the pole vaulting equipment inside at a baseball stadium on Third Street is being treated as suspicious, according to Nanaimo RCMP.

Police say they were called at approximately 4:45 a.m. on February 9th, after Nanaimo Fire Rescue responded to a blaze at Serauxmen Stadium, located at 700 Third Street, home of the Nanaimo NightOwls baseball team.

By the time fire crews arrived, the 10-metre by eight-metre shed had been heavily damaged and was nearly consumed by flames.

The structure was being used to store pole vaulting equipment.

Fire officials indicated the blaze may have been burning for several hours before it was discovered.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at (250) 754-2345.
