Damaged underground culvert prompts road closure on Cedar Hill Road

Share

The District of Saanich has announced the need for a full road closure for Cedar Hill Road due to a damaged underground culvert.

The road is expected to be closed for up to four days.

The road closure on Cedar Hill Road will impact all traffic in both directions between Churchill Drive and Ash Road.

The District says that the damaged culvert drains water from PKOLS (Mount Douglas Park) and poses a major risk of a washout if not attended to immediately.

Taking this project on now will reportedly reduce the risk of a more serious failure during periods of significant rainfall and runoff.

Additionally, the District says staff are proceeding with immediate design and replacement measures which will be undertaken at the same time as the culvert work.

Specifically, Cedar Hill Road will be fully closed for up to four days beginning on Monday, March 2nd.

Traffic controls will be in place throughout construction, but residents are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time in their commutes.

As for alternative routes, signage will be in place to notify road users of the alternate routes along Kenmore Road and Majestic Drive.

Throughout the shutdown the District warns residents that the work will disrupt normal flow patterns in the Gordon Head area and may cause localized discoloured water.
