A police investigation has been launched following a Nanaimo high school lock down.
Nanaimo RCMP say a threat that was directed at a student led to Nanaimo District Secondary High School being locked down for approximately a half-hour.
The lockdown occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday December 10th.
According to police, school administrators were made aware of the threat, and implemented lockdown procedures in response to the threat.
Police officers were then called in and were on scene throughout the lockdown to ensure the safety of everyone in the school.
By 3 p.m. the school was considered safe and students and staff were released from their respective classrooms.
Students were then dismissed for the day, and no further incidents were reported.
The police investigation is ongoing.
Over the past two months, there have been numerous threats made at Nanaimo schools which have prompted increased police presence.
