BC Ferries and BC Transit are teaming up to thank those who’ve served by offering free travel for veterans and active military members this Remembrance Day,
On Tuesday, November 11th, at 11 a.m., BC Ferries will observe two minutes of silence on its vessels and terminals to honour those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice.
Flags will fly at half-mast on BC Ferries vessels, and “Lest We Forget” will appear across BC Transit bus screens.
Anyone travelling in uniform or showing official Canadian military ID can ride for free on most routes (excluding the Inside Passage, Haida Gwaii and Central Coast Connector).
BC seniors can also travel free that day by showing a valid BC Services Card or driver’s licence.
Here in Greater Victoria, BC Transit buses and handyDART will also be free for anyone in uniform—active, retired, or cadet—as well as members of the Army, Navy, and Air Force Associations.
Transit will run on a Sunday schedule on November 11th.
Further up island, in the Cowichan Valley, veterans and active members can ride for free all week—from November 4th to 10th—on local routes and handyDART services. (The inter-regional routes to Victoria and Nanaimo aren’t part of the offer.)
It’s a small but meaningful way to help veterans get to ceremonies and gatherings across Vancouver Island.
Lest we forget.
