Vancouver Island’s Butterfly World in Coombs is up for sale

A long-time Vancouver Island attraction is looking for a new owner.

Butterfly World, located along Highway 4A in Coombs, has officially hit the market with an asking price of just under $2.3 million.

The listing, posted through Colliers and Unique Properties, includes the full business, property, and even a 3,200-square-foot home on the site.

The property spans more than 18 acres and is one of the area’s most eye-catching stops. Each year, tens of thousands of visitors wander through the tropical greenhouses, watch butterflies emerge from their chrysalises, and stroll the colourful outdoor gardens.

Butterfly World has been operating for over 35 years, making it a fixture in Coombs’ tourism scene alongside the nearby “Goats on the Roof” market.

For many Islanders, it’s a nostalgic spot, a place where school field trips, family outings, and summer road trips often made a stop.

The business runs seasonally, usually from spring through fall, and the sale listing highlights plenty of potential for a new owner to expand or put their own twist on the attraction.

With built-in highway exposure (around 15,000 cars per day drive by on summer weekends) and Coombs’ reputation as a quirky tourist hub, the listing positions Butterfly World as both a turn-key operation and an opportunity for growth.

For now, the butterflies are still fluttering, but the future of the site will depend on who decides to scoop it up next.
