A repeat offender has been arrested on 13 Criminal Code violations following an incident of alleged theft at Save-On-Foods.
Nanaimo RCMP allege that the individual who was arrested, 48-year-old Jason Diraddo, was responsible for an incident of bike theft in early July, in which a bicycle was stolen from an unsuspecting youth.
Police say that this particular incident garnered significant interest and outrage from the community when it occurred.
While investigating the bike theft, Nanaimo RCMP say that investigators caught a break on the file on August 24th, when the primary suspect in the theft was arrested for shoplifting at a local Save-On-Foods.
According to police, Diraddo allegedly brandished a handgun during the grocery store theft.
Diraddo was arrested as a result of this incident, and was remanded into police custody.
His offences include seven charges of theft under $5,000, robbery, two charges of uttering threats, two charges of obstruction and one charge of assault.
Police say his next court appearance is scheduled for October 7th, in the Nanaimo Provincial Court.
