A Mill Bay couple is celebrating an unexpected windfall after winning $1 million on a Scratch & Win ticket.

Kenneth and Michele Babich, both retired, couldn’t believe their luck when they found out their $10 In the Money Multiplier ticket had won the game’s top prize.

“We were at home, and I scratched the ticket,” Michele said. “Then I showed Ken after checking on the BCLC Lotto! App. He thought it was $50 seeing the ‘50x.’”

“Then I realized it was $1 million!” Kenneth added.

The couple says they enjoy playing the lottery because of the various ways the community benefits from the revenue.

When they claimed their prize, the Babichs hadn’t told their children yet but planned to share the news soon.

They already had a cruise booked; now the trip offers an extra reason to celebrate.

“It will help with our quality of life,” Michele said. “It’s going to help us give back more to the causes we are passionate about.”

The winning ticket was bought at Thrifty Foods on Mill Bay Road.

According to BCLC, Scratch & Win players across BC have already redeemed more than $109 million in prizes so far this year.
