Vancouver Island currently has six active wildfires, with many of these having been ignited over the last week.

The oldest of these is the Nahmint Mountain wildfire which has been active since June 8th and has spread up to 19.1 hectares.

It is located around 30 kilometres west-south-west of Port Alberni.

This blaze has been under control for a long while and is not expected to spread beyond its current perimeter.

Close to this blaze is a wildfire that was discovered over the weekend on July 6th, and is currently listed as under control by the BC Wildfire Service.

The wildfire has spread to a maximum of 0.2 hectares and is located along Rogers Creek, just east of Port Alberni.

Just south of Parksville, another small fire emerged over the weekend, but has likewise been deemed as under control by the BC Wildfire Service.

This blaze only grew to be 0.09 hectares in size and is located near Parksville along the South Island Railway.

Further south on the island, a wildfire was discovered on July 2nd, and is located northeast of Port Renfrew along Highway 4.

This wildfire peaked at 5.8 hectares and is not expected to spread beyond its current perimeter.

On Texada Island, just east of Courtenay, there is another small wildfire that was discovered recently, on July 3rd.

This wildfire has been deemed under control and is only 0.009 hectares in size at this time.

Lastly, there is a wildfire located on Malcolm Island, just east of Port McNeill. This is the only wildfire in the Vancouver Island region that is currently being held, meaning it should stay within its perimeter.

The cause of this fire is still under investigation by the BC Wildfire Service, but all other Vancouver Island wildfires are expected to be caused by humans.

As of this publication, there are currently 83 active wildfires in BC.
