The province’s police watchdog is asking for the public’s help following an arrest in Saanich that left a man injured earlier this week.
According to the Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO), the incident happened around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15th in the 4500-block of Granville Avenue.
Saanich Police say officers responded to the area after several 911 calls came in reporting a man acting erratically in traffic.
Some of those callers also said the man had been threatening drivers.
When officers arrived, they attempted to arrest the man. A police service dog was used during the takedown, and the man sustained injuries in the process.
He was taken into custody and brought to hospital for medical treatment. The IIO was later notified and has since launched an investigation to determine what happened.
As part of that investigation, the IIO is now seeking witnesses, particularly anyone who saw the arrest or has video footage of it. They’re asking those people to contact the IIO Witness Line at 1-855-446-8477 or submit a tip through the contact form at iiobc.ca.
