Every year, around Christmastime, Habitat for Humanity Victoria hosts their largest fundraiser of the year—the Gingerbread Showcase.
The Gingerbread Showcase sees teams create masterful works of art using all edible ingredients to try to win, with all proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity.
This year will be the showcase’s 17th year, and once again, all the gingerbread creations will be set up and displayed in the Grand Pacific Hotel from November 21st, through until January 4th, 2026.
Being a part of the Gingerbread Showcase fundraiser is highly sought after by individuals and teams from all over Greater Victoria, who pour hours upon hours into making their creation just right.
The theme this year will be ‘Homes for All.’
Habitat Victoria hopes that teams will highlight welcoming places where everyone feels they belong—surrounded by comfort, connection and warmth.
With this theme in mind, Habitat Victoria encourages teams to think outside the box and depict either a real, or imaginary, place in their creation.
However, there are a few rules that must be followed. Each creation must:
- Follow the theme of the year – Homes for All
- Be made of 100% entirely edible ingredients
- Fit on the provided base of 2’ x 2’
- Be at least 18“ tall
Habitat Victoria is putting out the word that registration is now open and they are encouraging home chefs, professional bakers, artists, designers, architects and baking fans of all ages to register now.
“Don’t hesitate, spots are limited and will fill up quickly,” said Habitat for Humanity Victoria in a media release.
At the end of the showcase, awards will be given out to the creations that receive the highest marks from judges, as well as a people’s choice award, determined by those who visit and vote for their favourite.
The other awards that are given out are: best first impression, best use of skill and technique, best interpretation of the theme, most creative and original and lastly, most diverse use of ingredients.
According to organizers, the event sees over 20,000 visitors from school groups, community groups, Victoria locals, tourists and more.
Registration is now open via the Habitat for Humanity Victoria website.
