A young motorcyclist is facing serious charges—and probably some serious regret—after allegedly ripping through downtown Parksville at nearly 200 km/h.
The high-speed joyride happened around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11th, when a BC Highway Patrol officer spotted the 23-year-old pulling stunts and weaving through traffic on a street lined with restaurants, parks, and pedestrian crosswalks.
Police say the rider was first seen doing a wheelie while flying down a 50 km/h zone at more than 130 km/h. Moments later, he reportedly hit a top speed of 193 km/h in a nearby 60 zone which is more than three times the speed limit.
BC Highway Patrol intercepted the rider shortly after and brought the incident to an end before any injuries were reported.
The motorcycle was seized and towed on the spot for a minimum seven-day impound, and the rider has been handed a court date.
He’s facing a criminal charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and will have the chance to explain his “skills” to a provincial court judge.
