A 37-year-old Courtenay man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to a suspicious death that occurred last month in the Comox Valley.
The investigation began on June 20th, after Comox Valley RCMP responded to a report of a sudden death at a private residence.
RCMP grew concerned about the circumstances of the death and secured the property for several days to conduct a forensic examination.
An autopsy later confirmed the death was a homicide.
Following a detailed investigation by the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit, Cameron McIndoe was arrested on July 9th and charged with second-degree murder. He remains in custody.
Police confirmed that the accused and the victim were known to one another. They also emphasized that at no point was there any risk to the general public.
“Our Major Crime Unit has worked diligently to uncover the full circumstances of what occurred, and that work continues as the matter proceeds through the courts,” said Staff Sergeant Jonah Todd, Plainclothes Commander of the Comox Valley RCMP.
No further details have been released at this time, out of respect for those impacted and to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
