A suspect has been arrested following a disturbing carjacking incident that took place near Hillside Shopping Centre yesterday.

The incident happened just after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 28th in the area of Hillside Avenue and Shelbourne Street.

According to Victoria police, a man forced his way into a vehicle that was already occupied, violently removed the female driver, and yelled at her children to get out before fleeing in the stolen car.

Later that evening, Victoria Police Chief Del Manak confirmed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the suspect had been arrested by West Shore RCMP with assistance from Victoria and Saanich police.

Manak described it as “a very troubling and dangerous incident.”

Earlier in the day, police released a photo of a man they described as a “person of interest” and asked for the public’s help in identifying him.

Police say the vehicle was stolen in the Hillside and Shelbourne area, and the image was circulated in hopes that someone in the community may have seen or interacted with the suspect.

VicPD is continuing its investigation and is asking anyone who was in the area around 9:30 a.m. and may have witnessed the incident or interacted with the suspect to contact the E-Comm Report Desk at 250-995-7654, referencing file #25-24281.
