Parks Canada offering free admission and discounted overnight stays this summer

Share

Precious time outside just got a whole lot sweeter!

Amid tension between Canada and US travel, starting Friday, June 20th and running until September 2nd, free admission will be offered at places operated by Parks Canada, known as the Canada Strong Pass.

This free admission is automatically applied to all national historic sites, national parks, national marine conservation areas, as well as lockage at canals on historic waterways, so long as they’re operated by Parks Canada.

Federal sites on the island where this is applicable include:

  • Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Site in Colwood
  • Ford Rodd Hill National Historic Site in Colwood
  • Pacific Rim National Park Reserve
  • Gulf Islands National Park Reserve (different locations spread across multiple islands)

Check out the full list of participating museums and galleries, here.

Plus, there will be a 25% discount on camping fees at participating locations, including tent and RV camping, frontcountry camping, equipped camping, backcountry overnight stays and more.

If you purchased a Parks Canada Discovery Pass in 2024 that’s valid until June, July and/or August, Parks Canada will automatically extend your pass for three additional months.

For example, if you bought a pass that has an original expiry date for July 2025, it will now expire in October 2025.

There’s no action required on your end to get this extension.

For those that have already booked a campsite or accommodation between the discounted dates, Parks Canada will reach out and explain how to receive your refund.

Free admission will not apply to provincial or territorial parks, Sépaq parks in Québec, municipal and private parks, parks or historic sites not operated by Parks Canada or locations operated by third parties.

For more detailed information and contact information if you have additional questions, you can visit the Parks Canada website.
