Missing boa constrictor found safe in Tofino after days of search

The search for Bailey, the boa constrictor who went missing in Tofino earlier this week, has come to a happy end.

After a few days of concern and social media updates, the CARE Network (Coastal Animal Rescue & Education Network) shared some good news on Thursday stating Bailey was found safe, curled up in the owner’s kayak, snoozing away.

Bailey, a 13-year-old boa, slipped away from his guardian during a Sunday outing near Chesterman Beach.

His disappearance quickly became the talk of the town, with locals and animal lovers keeping an eye out, hoping for a sighting.

CARE Network was notified on Monday and immediately began assisting in the search.

While not typically seen on the west coast, boa constrictors aren’t considered dangerous to people, though small animals should definitely be cautious.

The community rallied around the effort to track down the slithering snake, with CARE Network urging anyone who spotted something resembling a six-foot snake to report it.

The unexpected twist came Thursday when Bailey was found resting peacefully in his owner’s kayak. It seems Bailey wasn’t lost at all — just taking a quiet break.

The 13-year-old snake is a little smaller than most of his age, but still big enough to cause a bit of excitement in Tofino.

With the mystery now solved, locals can breathe a sigh of relief.
