An official opening date for H-Mart has been set.
Back in January 2023, it was announced that the popular Asian grocery chain H-Mart would be opening in the vacant, former Toys R Us location in Mayfair Shopping Centre.
Initially it was announced that the H-Mart would be open in November 2023, but setbacks pushed this optimistic timeline back to now, two years later.
With the 30,000 square foot space ready for its grand opening, an event will be held at H-Mart on May 22nd.
Beginning at 9 a.m., the first 500 shoppers will even receive a $5 gift card.
H-Mart had humble beginnings as a small corner store in Queens, New York City, and now has 84 stores open in the United States.
The “H” in the store’s name is a callback to the original cornerstore’s name, “Han Ah Reum,” which translates to “an armful” in English.
Victoria’s location will be its ninth location in BC alone, with other locations spanning the country in Alberta and Ontario.
H-Mart specializes in Korean groceries, but carries products integral to cultures and cuisines from throughout Asia.
