After having to put out a beach fire this weekend which was challenging to access, Victoria firefighters are feeling frustrated with those who start these fires.
On the morning of Sunday, May 25th, firefighters with the Victoria Fire Department were called to respond to a beach fire along a beach on Dallas Road.
When firefighters arrived, they found a large piece of driftwood actively burning and abandoned.
Firefighters were unable to contain the blaze with buckets of water, so over 600 feet of hose line had to be utilized to fully extinguish the fire.
“Honestly though—just stop having beach fires in the City of Victoria,” wrote the Victoria Firefighters Association in a social media post.

“Beach fires that are not properly contained or extinguished can lead to much bigger problems,” the association added.
Victoria Fire Department responds to over 250 beach fires annually and as the dry season approaches quickly, they urge the public to be mindful about their decisions regarding safe fire practices.
The Victoria Firefighters Association added that there were two members of the public who aided their efforts by not only calling in the beach fire, but stayed on the scene throwing buckets of water on the blaze to prevent spread.
