A 15-year-old boy was arrested Monday evening after allegedly using bear spray on a BC Transit bus driver in downtown Victoria.
The incident happened around 7:45 p.m. near the intersection of Government and Superior Streets.
According to VicPD, officers responded to a call from BC Transit and located the teen suspect shortly after, arresting him for assault with a weapon.
He was later released and returned to his residence.
BC Transit says it is aware of the incident and is working closely with VicPD as the investigation continues.
“Our thoughts are with the victim of this assault, and we appreciate the quick response and actions from our Transit Supervisor team and first responders,” the company said in a statement.
The agency emphasized that safety remains a top priority for both passengers and staff.
“Any acts of violence, either physical or verbal, against customers or transit employees are completely unacceptable,” it added.
BC Transit also noted that all buses are equipped with security cameras and that the company has established partnerships with first responders to help ensure rapid support during emergencies.
In situations involving inappropriate or illegal activity, BC Transit encourages riders to immediately notify the driver or contact police.
