On Sunday, May 11th, a large police presence, paramedics and firefights were all called to the corner of Beacon Avenue and Seventh Street.
Sidney residents who were wondering what the commotion was will take comfort in the fact that no one died during the incident that led to such a massive police presence, which included officers from Central Saanich Police Department.
At around 4:10 p.m. an individual who required a mobility scooter reportedly got their foot caught, which caused them to fall from the scooter, into the crosswalk.
“This incident involved a mobility chair user accidentally injuring themselves with their own chair,” wrote Cst. Tim Cosgrove, former media relations officer for Sidney and North Saanich RCMP.
“There was no vehicle, or third party, involved… No investigation required.”
Though Sidney/North SaanichRCMP stated that the individual who fell from their scooter only suffered minor injuries, paramedics say that the injuries were treatable, but serious.
“One ambulance with primary care paramedics and one ambulance with advanced care paramedics responded to the scene,” said Brian Twaites, Paramedic Public Information Officer.
“Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to one patient who was transported to hospital in serious but stable condition.”
It is unknown whether the individual who fell from their scooter remains in hospital, or what the extent of their injuries was at this time.
