Vancouver Island’s only tulip festival blooms to life this weekend and runs through May

Spring is officially in bloom on Vancouver Island, and there’s only one place to experience it in full colour.

Starting Friday, April 25th, Coastal Black’s Tulip Festival returns to Black Creek, offering a stunning display of over 350,000 tulips spread across a vibrant, walkable landscape.

Running every Friday through Monday until May 12th, this seasonal celebration is the only tulip festival on the island — and it’s become a spring staple for locals and visitors alike since first launching in 2022.

The family-friendly event is hosted at Coastal Black Estate Winery, located at 2186 Endall Road. Along with the breathtaking floral displays, the festival features a variety of experiences designed to make the most of spring.

Guests can take home fresh-cut tulip bouquets, shop the spring market on weekends, and enjoy locally crafted cider and wine on the outdoor patio. While the tasting room will be closed during the festival, ticket holders will still have access to the wine and cider patio.

Adding to the charm is a special guest that’s quickly become a fan favourite — the festival is home to BC’s only Micro Mini Highland Calf. Visitors are welcome to meet the tiny cow during their visit, making for a truly unique and memorable experience.

For those planning a celebration or special outing, the Tulip Festival also offers a scenic backdrop perfect for everything from bachelorette parties and family gatherings to corporate retreats and photography sessions.

Tulips have a long and fascinating history, particularly in Dutch culture where they became a symbol of wealth and status during the 17th century’s “Tulip Mania.” Today, the flower remains a powerful symbol of spring and renewal, and Coastal Black’s festival taps into that legacy with a distinctly Vancouver Island twist.

The festival runs rain or shine from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on scheduled days, and tickets are available for purchase online at a discounted rate. Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead to make the most of this short-lived but unforgettable event.
