The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is seeking witnesses following a serious crash in Duncan involving an off-duty police officer and two pedestrians.
The incident occurred just before 6 a.m. on Thursday, April 10th, in the northbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway near University Way.
According to North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP, the SUV involved in the collision was being driven by an off-duty officer.
Both pedestrians were transported to hospital with serious injuries.
BC Emergency Health Services confirmed that one of the victims was in critical condition, while the other was in stable condition as of Thursday morning.

The crash led to major traffic disruptions. Drive BC reported the northbound lanes of the highway were fully blocked for hours, with delays stretching well into the morning.
The collision happened in a stretch of road near the proposed location for a pedestrian overpass — an area many residents have flagged as unsafe.
That corridor has been identified as a danger zone for pedestrians, with an estimated 30% of pedestrian activity there considered unsafe.
The IIO, which investigates incidents involving police officers that result in death or serious harm, was notified the same day and has launched an investigation into the incident.
No further details about those involved have been released, and no charges have been announced.
