Vancouver Police say several people have died after a driver plowed through a crowded street festival on Saturday night.
The incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. on Fraser Street, between East 41st Avenue and East 49th Avenue in South Vancouver.
“A number of people have been killed and multiple others are injured after a driver drove into a crowd at a street festival,” the VPD said in a statement.

Videos posted to social media show multiple fatalities and dozens of injured people along the street, including infants.
Police have confirmed the driver, 30-year-old Vancouver man, is in custody. The suspect, who is known to police, was driving a black SUV, which was left with a severely crushed hood following the incident.
Crowds had gathered for the Lapu Lapu Day Festival, an event meant to celebrate the culture and heritage of Vancouver’s Filipino community.
“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific incident at today’s Lapu Lapu Day event. We will work to provide more information as soon as we can, but at this time Vancouver Police have confirmed that there are a number of fatalities and multiple injuries,” reads a statement by Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim this evening.

“Shocked and heartbroken to hear of the lives lost & those injured at the Lapu Lapu festival. Police are investigating and a suspect is in custody. We are in contact with the City of Vancouver and will provide any support needed. My thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones,” said Premier of BC David Eby.
