Wind warning issued for north Vancouver Island with gusts reaching 90 km/h

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for all of north Vancouver Island and parts of the central coast today. 

Throughout the day on Wednesday, March 19th, strong winds will sweep much of Vancouver Island’s northern regions, with southeast winds gusting up to 90 km/h. 

“A deep low pressure system moving towards the central coast of BC continues to generate very strong southeast winds of 90 km/h over exposed coastal sections of the Central Coast and North Vancouver Island today,” said Environment Canada. 

“The winds will subside this evening as the low weakens and moves out of the area.”

Environment Canada warns that loose objects left unattended may be tossed by today’s winds, potentially causing damage to property or even injury. 

Additionally, fallen tree branches may cause damages and power outages in impacted regions. 

As of this publication, there are no listed power outages in the north island region on BC Hydro’s outage list. 

Wind aside, today’s high in Port McNeill is forecasted to be 8°C with showers throughout the day and an overnight low of 3°C.
