Highway 4 near Port Alberni to be temporarily closed for rock debris cleanup

Heads up if you’re planning a trip to Tofino or surrounding area this week.

The BC goverment issued a media release inforing motorists of a planned closure on Highway 4 near Angel Rock from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m on Thursday, March 6th.

The closure is necessary for debris cleanup following a minor rockslide that took place on February 26th.

While the rock-fall mitigation barrier and fencing successfully intercepted the debris, the catchment area that trapped the materials needs some repairs.

To get the job done safely, the debris must be cleared, and the work requires good weather conditions and daylight hours.

During this time, drivers can expect the highway to be closed in both directions. Once the cleanup is finished, the road will reopen. There are no additional closures planned beyond this one, so drivers can rest assured that the disruption should be short-lived.

If you’re planning to travel along Highway 4 on Thursday, March 6, it’s a good idea to adjust your schedule to avoid delays.
