The Victoria Royals are on a strong run this season, which will be on display this weekend as the team takes on the Spokane Chiefs.
The two teams, currently second and third in the Western Conference respectively, will face off in what promises to be a key test.
Over the last 25 games, the Royals have posted an impressive 19-4-2 record. In February, the Royals went 9-1-0-1, giving them a five-point lead for first place in the BC Division.
This season marks significant growth for the Royals, who finished fourth in the division and seventh in the league last season. With 81 points and eight games remaining, they have already surpassed last season’s point total by 14.
After an eight-point gain from series against the Prince George Cougars and Portland Winterhawks over the past two weekends, the Royals are heading into this key matchup with the Spokane Chiefs at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre this weekend, March 7th and 8th.
The Chiefs, with a record of 41-18-1-1, will offer top-tier hockey as they take on the Royals on our home ice for the first time this season.
The Royals’ leading goal scorer, Teydon Trembecky, is tied with Spokane’s Andrew Cristall for second most goals in the WHL this season, each with 42.
Meanwhile, Cole Reschny, with 22 goals and 62 assists for 84 points this season, is just three assists away from setting a Royals franchise record for most assists in a single season.
On the defensive end, Justin Kipkie ranks sixth among WHL defensemen with 12 goals and 42 assists for 54 points. He’s joined by Keaton Verhoeff, who has scored 18 goals, marking the most goals by a 16-year-old WHL defenseman since the 1984-85 season.
You won’t want to miss the matchup when the Royals take on the Spokane Chiefs, March 7th and 8th! On March 14th, the Royals will host BC Division rival, the Vancouver Giants, for their final regular-season home game.
