A crash involving a BC Transit bus and a car early Monday morning sent one driver to hospital and briefly reduced traffic along Sooke Road.
The two-vehicle collision occurred just before 6 a.m. in the 4900-block of Sooke Road. No passengers were aboard the bus at the time, and the bus operator was uninjured.
West Shore RCMP confirmed that the driver of the other vehicle, a Hyundai Accent, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and no violation tickets have been issued at this time, though that may change as the investigation continues.
Video from the scene showed significant front-end damage to the car, with debris strewn across the roadway. The crash briefly reduced Sooke Road to single-lane traffic before crews cleared the scene and reopened the road fully.
“BC Transit is aware of an accident involving a BC Transit bus this morning on Sooke Road.
In a stement to Victoria Buzz, BC Transit acknowledged abus was travelling westbound on Sooke Road when it was struck by a vehicle travelling the other direction.
“There were no customers on board the bus, and we are thankful our operator was not injured. BC Transit thanks our Transit Supervisor and emergency services for their fast response. Safety is our top priority, and BC Transit will be conducting an internal investigation into this incident,” said a BC Transit spokeseperson.
The circumstances surrounding the crash is still being investigated.
