Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for the Greater Victoria region as a system of high winds approaches Vancouver Island.
This wind warning is expected to last from as early as the afternoon of Tuesday, February 18th until Wednesday afternoon.
“A low pressure centre will approach Vancouver Island tonight and Wednesday morning,” said Environment Canada in their wind warning.
“As the low approaches, strong southeast winds of 70 km/h gusting to 90 will develop over Greater Victoria.”
As this low pressure system moves, the winds will weaken.
Environment Canada warns that damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur during this high wind event and loose objects may be tossed, causing injury or damage.
Additionally, high winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches.
Wind aside, the high temperature for Tuesday and Wednesday is expected to be around 10°C with periods of rain and an overnight low of around 6°C.
Thursday and Friday are expected to be mostly dry, but cloudy, with a high of 9°C and a low of between 6°C and 7°C.
The weekend is forecasted to be rainy once again, but with highs of around 11°C.
