A 49-year-old was arrested earlier this month for breaking into a home on Vancouver Island.
On February 4th, Comox Valley RCMP arrested a man following several reports of property damage and a break-and-enter incident in the Cumberland area.
At approximately 7:15 a.m., RCMP officers were dispatched to the 3200-block of 10th Street after receiving calls about a suspicious individual seen running through backyards and jumping fences.
Upon arriving at the scene, police were directed to a nearby residence where they located the suspect, who was found inside the home.
Identified as 49‑year‑old Matthew Maveety, the suspect was promptly arrested and charged with break and enter. Additional charges include resisting arrest and mischief to property. During the arrest, one officer sustained minor injuries.
“Thanks to vigilant community members, officers were able to locate and arrest the suspect quickly,” said Comox Valley RCMP Media Relations Officer Constable Monika Terragni. Due to his erratic behaviour, Maveety was taken to hospital for a medical assessment before being transported to jail. Once medically cleared, he was held in police custody.
After an initial court appearance, Maveety was released on protective conditions. His next court date is scheduled for February 27th.
