Starting May 15th, Porter Airlines is launching a direct flight service between Ottawa International Airport (YOW) and Victoria International Airport (YYJ).

The route will run for the summer season, with up to four roundtrip flights per week, providing a new connection for business, conference, and leisure travellers alike.

The flights will be operated on Porter’s Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. Destination Greater Victoria (DGV) has played a key role in this development, partnering with Porter Airlines to help bring this route to life.

DGV’s involvement includes both financial and marketing support, showcasing its commitment to making Victoria more accessible for visitors.

“This new route is a game-changer,” said Paul Nursey, CEO of Destination Greater Victoria. “It provides a seamless travel experience for conference delegates and business tourists, strengthening Victoria’s reputation as a top destination for meetings and events.”

The timing couldn’t be better.

This year, Victoria is set to host the Canadian Society of Association Executives, bringing over 400 delegates from Ottawa’s association sector.

According to DGV, each of these attendees represents a potential opportunity to bring future conferences to the city, making this new connection a valuable asset for Victoria’s economy.

“Business events are the backbone of a strong visitor economy. Delegates not only tend to stay longer and spend more, but they also help drive tourism during the off-peak season. This new route, along with Porter’s Toronto-Victoria service, enhances our ability to host these valuable events,” said Miranda Ji, Executive VP of Sales & Business Development at DGV.

The Victoria Conference Centre (VCC) already plays a significant role in attracting conferences and meetings to the city. In 2024, it hosted 147 events, including 65 large-scale conferences, generating $31.1 million in business sales and supporting over 10,000 jobs.

Porter Airlines’ new Ottawa-Victoria route will operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with flights departing Ottawa at 8:35 a.m. and landing in Victoria at 10:55 a.m. Return flights will leave Victoria at 11:50 a.m., arriving back in Ottawa at 7:35 p.m.

This new service will complement Porter’s existing Toronto-Victoria route, which is increasing to 10 weekly roundtrips starting in May.
