BC Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the death of a 61-year-old Nanoose Bay man who was struck by a vehicle on Friday, January 3rd.
Police say progress has been made in their investigation, but more witnesses and video footage is needed to aid them.
Thus far, the investigation has found that just after 7 a.m., a southbound pickup truck struck the pedestrian as he was crossing Highway 19 at Northwest Bay Road in Nanoose Bay.
“BC Highway Patrol has brought in collision reconstruction and mechanical experts to go over every detail,” said Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol.
“This is a dangerous time of year for pedestrians. We are asking all drivers to slow down and be extra alert, and all pedestrians to wear high-visibility clothing and protect themselves.”
Police say the driver stopped immediately and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
It has already been determined that there was no immediate indication of impairment or criminality.
Multiple witnesses to the collision reportedly stopped and did what they could for the pedestrian and to assist police.
